Massive rains created foot-deep ruts in a very sloped part of my gravel driveway in northwest lower peninsula Michigan and it needed repair before winter (so I didn't break an axle or get stuck in the rut). Joe Pica at IronGrade Surface Solutions is actually based in southeast Michigan but he said that half his work is outstate. He had just finished a job at Leland and stopped by to see my driveway on his way to a job in the Alpena area. Joe told me that we needed to have the sloping part of our driveway completely excavated and then rebuilt. He was personable, with an intelligent and knowledgeable demeanor, but admittedly my level of knowledge on the subject approaches zero. He said that lesser damage can often be regraded and reshaped, but mine would need more work. (I expected from the amount of damage that this would be more than just filling in some ruts.) He explained exactly what he would do, and how it would be built to enhance water runoff and reduce the chance of it being washed out again. He was able to do the work promptly, about 3 weeks after the initial consultation, to time it with other work in the area. I was very pleased with the overall appearance of the work. He even graveled and compacted a horizontal portion of the driveway at no extra charge because he had extra material. He communicated throughout the process, answered all my questions by text and phone call, and sent pictures of the work (we were not present at the time the work was done - - it is a vacation home). Overall, I found it to be a very professional encounter, and everything was done to my satisfaction.

Joe did a fantastic job of regrading, removing pot holes and compacting my gravel driveway. He is very experienced at using his equipment and knowledgeable about what he is doing. He was on the job when he said he would be. I would recommend him to my family and friends. I will hire him again in the future for sure. He is very professional and a friendly person and his price was very fair.

Amazing work and an absolute pleasure to work with. This was a big project- complete tear out of our asphalt driveway, layout change and regrading, and multiple layers of materials. We had a number of companies look at the project, but most were just planning to do a gravel dump. What set Joe apart immediately was that he paid attention to things like drainage, under layers, and compaction to make sure it stands the test of time. Additionally, Joe was extremely communicative of timing and complications that popped up along the way so that there were no surprises. We couldn’t be happier with the end result, it’s exactly what we had hoped for. Would highly recommend Joe to anyone.

Over time, my gravel driveway was becoming overrun with vegetation. I knew I had to do something to refurbish it to once again bring the limestone to the forefront instead of being hidden under weeds and grass. I found IronGrade Surface Solutions on my FaceBook timeline and saw several driveway transformations. In addition I saw the positive reviews from happy customers. So I wrote Joe on Facebook Messenger to get a quote on restoring my driveway. He promptly got back with me giving me two choices, one which involved scraping it to bring up the stone and then rolling it, etc. The other involved the same but also bringing in more stone. I chose the second option and let him know that I wanted the crushed limestone over the clean limestone to create a more compact driveway that could hold up when being plowed during Michigan winters. IronGrade did not disappoint.. Joe took the time to scrape and configure my driveway as I had requested. He made sure to resurrect it by scraping it, bringing in additional crushed limestone and rolling it multiple times to compact it.
